    Design/Build Meeting II
    Time: 1230
    Where: Room 221

Write this one down in your trendy moleskine diary folks - we're having another meeting to discuss the possibilities of a design/build programme right here at VUW.

    The low-down:
A group of predominantly second-year students are hoping to get a design/build programme going, in a situation which is mutually beneficial to both our learning and to a cause or community we choose (or chooses us).

Last week we saw a couple of examples, both international and local, which will potentially guide our approach to this project.

Now, it's time to really think about:
    a) What we want to do
    b) Where we want to do it

The 'why' should already be in your little idealistic/altruistic/proactive heart and as for when - probably fourth year, but still an open question. The 'how' is a biggie, but will come from figuring the 'what' and 'where' out, then approaching communities or organisations and understanding their needs.

SO. Come to the meeting. What I think would be really helpful is if you had a ponder yourself about the what and the where - what approach would you take? Think about existing precedents, feasibility, pros and cons and how it could be adapted to our school. Bring this insight to the meeting, and we'll talk.

See you then, spread the word!

  2. At the meeting we decided a possible site for the design/build studio was Te Aro primary school. I've been involved with the school for the past few years and i can't think of a more perfect candidate.

I've arranged to get together with Bryce the principal tomorrow before work - just to let him know who we are, where we're at, what our intentions are (going from what was said at the meeting) and to gage whether there would be any interest.

I mentioned that if people wanted to come check out the site tomorrow I will be at the school from 3 - 5, although i don't really need to be there - you can wander round school grounds anytime apart from school hours.

I'm hesistant to get too involved before we've at least heard back from the principal, but once that has happened i will make a proper post about the school.
